Darren Blasutti

President & Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Blasutti was the President and CEO of US Silver & Gold prior to its merger with Americas Silver Corporation (formerly Scorpio Mining Corporation). He was formerly the President and Chief Executive Officer of RX Gold & Silver Inc. and prior to that Senior Vice President of Corporate Development for Barrick Gold Corporation ("Barrick"). He reported to the Chief Executive Officer and played a lead role in the strategic development of Barrick for 13 years between 1998 and early 2011, during which time he executed over 25 gold mining transactions including the acquisitions of Homestake Mining Company and Placer Dome Inc. and the consolidation of the world class Cortez property from Rio Tinto.

Mr. Blasutti also led the creation of Barrick Energy Inc. to hedge Barrick's exposure to energy prices and the initial public offering of African Barrick Gold. During his tenure at Barrick, Mr. Blasutti was integrally involved in numerous equity and financing transactions and also led the Investor Relations function. Mr. Blasutti was previously at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where he planned, supervised and managed audits for a variety of clients. 


Warren Varga

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Varga was formerly the CFO of US Silver & Gold and brings over 20 years of progressive financial leadership and senior management expertise to Americas Gold and Silver. Prior to this, Mr. Varga held the role of Senior Director, Corporate Development at Barrick Gold Corporation. Mr. Varga is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute.


James A. (Jim) Currie

Chief Operating Officer

Over the course of Mr. Currie’s more than 40-year career in the mining industry, Mr. Currie has been a director on various boards and held senior management, engineering and operation roles for a number of mines and projects.  Mr. Currie has served as Chief Operating Officer for a number of TSX and NYSE listed companies including Equinox Gold Corp., Pretium Resources Inc. and New Gold Inc.  During his tenure at Equinox Gold Corp., Mr. Currie led the construction effort of the Arizona and Castle Mountain mines.  At Pretium Resources Inc., Mr. Currie led development of the Brucejack gold asset and at New Gold Inc., Mr. Currie led the construction and development of the New Afton gold mine, which went into production in 2012.   Mr. Currie holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree with honours in mining engineering from Queen’s University and is a registered professional engineer. Mr. Currie was the 2014 co-winner of AME BC’s prestigious EA Scholtz Award for Excellence in Mine Development for his work on New Afton.


Peter McRae

Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs & CLO

Mr. McRae formerly served as Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary of U.S. Silver and Gold and brings over 15 years of robust corporate and commercial experience to Americas Gold and Silver.  He was an attorney at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, based in New York, in the firm's transactions group representing some of the largest organizations and private equity firms in the world.  He is currently a member of the New York and Ontario Bars and is a certificate holder in Mining Law.


Stefan Axell

Vice President, Corporate Development & Communications

Mr. Axell, formerly Franco-Nevada Senior Management, brings over 15 years of finance and mining experience to Americas Gold and Silver, and was a former equity research analyst.

Mr. Axell is also a CFA charterholder.


Dennis Wilson

VP-Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability

Mr. Dennis Wilson has worked in the area of sustainability for more than 30 years. Mr. Wilson has extensive experience in oversight of environmental and health and safety management as well as community management, including over 18 years in the mining industry.  Mr. Wilson has worked as Vice President of Sustainability for STLLR Gold (formerly Moneta Gold),  Vice President Health Safety Environment at Equinox Gold Corp. and Director Environment and Social Responsibility at New Gold Inc. overseeing the sustainability aspects of operations and projects in Canada, US, Australia, Mexico and Brazil.  Mr. Wilson brings a breadth of experience having worked in every aspect of sustainability from early projects through to mine closure. Mr. Wilson has also managed relationships with First Nations in several parts of Canada, and relationships with remote communities in Australia, Brazil and Mexico.  Mr. Wilson holds an Bachelors Degree in Applied Science (Environmental Science) from Charles Sturt University (NSW, Australia).
